Saturday Night Live Recap: Sterling K. Brown Slays as This Is Us Goes to D.C.

Tonight, This is Us star Sterling K. Brown hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time. The two-time Emmy-winner has admitted to being nervous about his first round at Studio 8H but–as anyone could have predicted–he was nothing short of sensational. Tonight was big fun, and now it’s just a question of when Brown will be invited back for round two.

Sterling K. Brown Brings the Tears in Epic ‘This Is Us’ Parody on ‘Saturday Night Live’

Brown shined from the moment he took the stage, where he jokingly struggled to fight back tears during his hilarious monologue.

“I actually have a reputation for being pretty sensitive,” Brown explained. “But what can I say? I’m an actor, and I wear my emotions on my sleeve.”

He only made it a few moments in before the feelings began to well up inside him about getting to host the show for the first time, and he had to psych himself up yelling, “Wooo! Get it together, Sterling Kathleen, it’s all good.”

Sterling K. Brown’s This Is Us Spoof Is What Saturday Night Live Was Made For

For Sterling K. Brown’s first turn as host of Saturday Night Live, he boldly went where so many past guest stars have gone before: Trump’s cabinet.

In Brown’s case, the This Is Us star suited up to become former presidential candidate-turned-embattled Director of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson, whose whimpery voice and pout Brown has down to a science, even without the whitened scruff.

SNL: Sterling K. Brown Nails Ben Carson in Hilarious ‘This Is U.S.’ Parody

With Sterling K. Brown hosting Saturday Night Live for the first time this week, a parody of NBC’s This Is Us seemed inevitable. But we did not know he would be playing Dr. Ben Carson.

“Millions of Americans have tuned in to the show that’s captivating a nation,” the announcer read, before revealing Brown as President Trump’s HUD secretary.

“Dr. Ben Carson, what’s wrong?” an aide asks him. “All of it. All of it is wrong,” he replies. Later, his wife laughs in his face when he tells her he runs the Department of Housing and Urban Development instead of something that has any relation to his career as a brain surgeon.

This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown to guest on Brooklyn Nine-Nine

January 04, 2018

Sterling has a new guest appearance scheduled! Thank you to for the news!

This Is… going to be fun.

Sterling K. Brown will travel across networks to guest-star on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Fox announced on Thursday.

The Emmy-winning This Is Us star — who was last seen on the NBC dramedy threatening to kill his brother, who was pulled over for DUI with his daughter in the backseat — will play an actual murder suspect on Fox’s cop comedy. The episode is special in that it will follow a single story line for the half-hour, as Philip Davidson (Brown) is interrogated by Jake (Andy Samberg) and Holt (Andre Braugher).

The episode is slated to air in the spring, when Brooklyn‘s fifth season resumes. Brown has long desired to work with Braugher, a fellow Stanford alum, and he even thanked him in his speech last fall at the Emmys when he won the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series trophy, becoming the first African-American actor to win that in 19 years, when Braugher triumphed for his work on Homicide: Life on the Street. “I just want to say whether it’s at Stanford or on this stage, it is my supreme honor to follow in your footsteps,” Brown effused from the stage.

Brown — who will hit the big screen in Hotel Artemis, Black Panther, and The Predator — recently popped up on HBO comedy Insecure.

The season 5 guest roster also includes Tim Meadows, Lou Diamond Phillips, Jimmy Smits, Bradley Whitford, and Danny Trejo.

Sterling Visits The Talk to Discuss Marshall

October 06, 2017

Here is a clip from Sterling’s interview on The Talk to discuss his new film Marshall … I think this is a good reminder to the importance of this issue and it is opening up a needed discussion.

Emmy-winning actor Sterling K. Brown opens up about his new movie ‘Marshall,’ about Young Thurgood Marshall who worked as a lawyer for the NAACP. “It’s such a powerful sort of reminder to me as the history of this country and how intrinsically tied racism is in it. It will never go away, but you can’t ignore it,” explains Brown. “It’s only through the discussion and active sort of like recognition that this is something that needs to be addressed that you can actually move forward. So I feel like today, 2017, we tend to think the momentum of society is to always progress… but sometimes it feels for me that we may have taken a step back. But, you know, when you take a look at a movie like this, I hope it jars people to the reality of “no, we can’t go back anymore. It’s time to move forward.”

Sterling K. Brown Literally Ran Through Koreatown to Get His Wife to Date Him

October 06, 2017

Sterling was interviewed by the ladies of the Talk yesterday and shared some of his experiences dating Ryan.

Now this is love at first sight.

Sterling K. Brown and his wife Ryan Michelle Bathe have been married for 10 years, but before she agreed to date him, she made him literally chase after her.

On Thursday, the This is Us star stopped by The Talk to spill the details on just how he won her over.

“Is it true that you had to work really hard to win Ryan over?” asked co-host Sharon Osbourne.

“Yes ma’am, it is,” Brown, 41, replied before being cut off by Osbourne, who informed the Emmy-award winning actor he didn’t need to be so formal; he could just call her “Mrs. O.”

“So we dated off and on in college and then we broke up for three and a half years before we came back into each other’s lives,” Brown began. “She was on the treadmill working out, and I had this epiphany, ‘I have to go tell this woman she’s the love of my life.’”

“I go to her apartment, I tell her, and she’s like, ‘Well, I’m working out right now,’ and I was like, ‘No, I can see that — I’ll just talk to you while you’re on the treadmill,’ and she’s like, ‘Well, I feel like going outside. So I’m gonna go on a run,’ ” he continued.

“So I’m like dressed [in a suit] and she starts running through Koreatown and I start running along with her,” he added. “Brother had to work, but it was well-worth while.”

Brown and Bathe, also 41, wed in 2007 and share two children: Andrew, 6, and Amaré, 2.

Brown has been known to fawn over his wife in sweet social media posts, like when he captioned an Instagram video of his wife getting ready for the 2017 Emmys, “Don’t hurt ’em, Bird! #emmys2017 How can it get any better than this?”
